Karen Buckley is a print designer and illustrator who recently graduated with a BA(HONS) in Fashion Marketing and Textile Design from London Met. Karen grew up in London drawing influences from her fast paced, creative surroundings and was inspired by artists flying the flag for independent thinking and DIY; falling in love with movements such as pop art and punk and developing an interest in print making, stencil art, comics, street art, graffiti and skateboard graphics. After graduation with a strong determination to go freelance she has become one fourth of the design collective Feral Line working alongside three other female artists with a similar creative process and all sharing a love for the black line, with similar creative output, aesthetic appreciation and sense of direction. With her work Karen likes to explore the more grotesque aspects of everyday life and highlights issues that affect people such as death, process, decision and time. Karen’s preferred working medium is a pot of Indian ink along with a mapping nib or a black fine liner and will happily spend hours cutting an intricate layered stencil. Karen’s graduate collection consisted of a collection of prints and a trio of micro and standard skateboards and was awarded Best in Show, nominated for Creative Vision and was exhibited at New Designers 2014 and she plans to show at The London Design Festival in September.
